Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

186 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will examine his Department's 1994 planning regulations (details supplied) to ensure that they do not conflict with county development plans in so far as such plans specify that masts should not be in close proximity to schools (details supplied); his views on whether a loophole exists; if he will have the relevant section amended to ensure protection for schools; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3040/01]

The provision in question is currently being examined as part of the general review of the exempted development regulations made under the planning Acts. New regulations are now being finalised. These will require the positive resolution of both Houses of the Oireachtas and I propose to submit draft regulations for approval before the end of March.
