Ceist:

218 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí in each of the Garda divisions; if he will indicate to the Garda Commissioner that some allowance must be made in allocating additional Garda resources by reference to areas in the eastern part of the country which are experiencing continuing population growth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities, which are responsible for the detailed allocation of gardaí to individual areas, that the manpower strength of each operational Garda division as at January 2001 is as set out hereunder:
