Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

223 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to public concern at policing levels in Finglas, Dublin 11; and the steps he will take to review this situation. [3219/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of gardaí to individual areas, that the present resources allocated to Finglas station are as follows:–

Inspector

1

Sergeants

11

Gardai

70

I am further informed that Garda manpower assigned, together with overall policing arrangements and operational strategy, are continually monitored and reviewed. Such monitoring ensures that optimum use is made of Garda resources. Provisional crime statistics for the period 1 January 2001 to 4 February 2001 indicate that there has been a significant reduction in crime in the Finglas area when compared with the same period in the year 2000.
