Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Amalgamation.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

234 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the amalgamation of the comprehensive schools in Ballymun; if a programme of refurbishment has been agreed for the schools which are to be amalgamated; if a decision has been made on the future of the remaining school building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2951/01]

The building unit of my Department is currently awaiting a stage 2 submission, outline sketch scheme, for the proposed amalgamation of the comprehensive schools in Ballymun. It is not possible to put a time scale on this project until after the stage 2 submission is received. It is intended that the senior school building will be retained for educational purposes, and my officials will submit proposals to me in that regard in due course. In the meantime the building unit has commissioned a report on the works necessary to allow for the effective functioning of the other school building until the amalgamation takes place. This report is currently awaited.
