Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

255 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason his planning unit have yet to contact a school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 with regard to their application for an extension. [3098/01]

My Department recently received the stage 4/5 submission, i.e., detailed design and bill of quantities, for the proposed extension at the school to which the Deputy refers. Staff in the building unit of my Department are currently examining this submission and a response will issue to the school shortly.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

256 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the starting date for the construction of a permanent school for Coláiste Cois Life, Lucan, County Dublin, has been put back to 2002; if his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory condition of the present temporary prefabs which are not maintained properly by the Vocational Education Committee; if he will now bring forward the permanent building project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3099/01]

I am fully committed to providing a new second level all Irish school at Colaiste Cois Life in Lucan. I am, however, disappointed with the slow progress on the design and planning of the new school, which has resulted in the timeframe for the delivery of this project slipping.

Currently, a second revised stage 2, outline sketch scheme, submission is being examined within the building unit of my Department. If this revision is found to be satisfactory, then approval will issue to the client on this project, County Dublin VEC, to proceed to stage 3 of the design team procedures, developed sketch scheme. The key to expediting progress with the planning of this new school is the client only accepting from its design team submissions that are in compliance with my Department's design team procedures. I have not been informed of any problems being experienced with the prefabs at the school.
