Vol. 530 No. 4

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of related notices under Standing Order 31 from Deputies Sargent and Dukes. I propose to call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notice to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following issue of public importance: how the Government proposes to implement the latest measures proposed by the EU Commission to make beef production less intensive and how it intends to address the need to internalise the costs to the environment of food production methods which would, in turn, make organic production more competitive.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the measures announced by the European Commission to reduce beef production and to supplement the purchase for destruction scheme with a storage measure.

Having considered the matters fully, I do not consider them to be contemplated by Standing Order 31. Therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motions.
