Vol. 530 No. 5

Written Answers. - Refuge Centres.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

120 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans his Department has to assist and fund two women's refuge centres in Kilkenny and Wexford to ensure each will open and be in a position to provide services in 2001; if his attention has been drawn to the need to provide extra funding for the running cost of each centre to enable the openings to take place; and if a statement can be issued to clarify the position. [4342/01]

The provision of services for women victims of violence in the South Eastern Health Board region is a matter, in the first instance, for the South Eastern Health Board. I have made substantial funding available to the health boards for 2001 for women victims of violence which should result in a considerable improvement to these services.
