Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

159 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when suckler cow payments for 2000 will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4552/01]

The person named applied for premium on 11 cows and one heifer under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme for small scale milk producers on 31 May 2000.

Applicants under this scheme must be producing cow's milk for disposal from their holdings and must have milk quotas of less than 30,638 gallons on 31 March 2000-1 April 2000. They must also give undertakings not to increase their milk quotas either temporarily or permanently to 30,638 or more gallons during an unbroken 12 months period from the date of application.

The person named declared on his application that he held a milk-quota of 24,054 gallons on 31 March 2000. On 19 June 2000, he obtained 690 gallons of extra quota from the 15 million gallon allocation to Ireland under Agenda 2000. He also purchased 6,638 gallons of extra quota on 11 July 2000. The total milk quota held by the person named from 11 July 2000 was 31,382 gallons, which is in excess of the 30,638 limit. Accordingly he is not eligible for any suckler cow premium for 2000.
