Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

194 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance the capital projects funded by his Department that commenced in the Waterford constituency in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4865/01]

Works which commenced in the Waterford area during year 2000 are as follows. The contract was placed for fit-out of 108 The Quay, Waterford, on 4 October 2000. Works to interior were completed by 1 November 2000. The external work to the building commenced on 1 February 2001. Alterationredecoration works to Tallow Garda station were placed with the contractor in March 2000 and commenced April-May 2000. Improvement works to public office were carried out to Dungarvan Garda station commenced mid 2000.

In relation to flood relief works, a flood protection scheme involving structural improvements of the quay wall at Scotch Quay, Waterford, to be carried out by Waterford Corporation and funded by the Office of Public Works, commenced on site in January 2001. However, the contractor was appointed by Waterford Corporation and steel sheet piling for the project was purchased by them in November and December 2000. No expenditure was incurred by the Office of Public Works in 2000.

As the Deputy may be aware, there are a number of projects that passed through the planning stage in 2000 and which will be on site in 2001.
