The next meeting of the Council of Economic and Finance Ministers, ECOFIN, will take place on Monday, 12 March 2001. The provisional agenda for that meeting includes preparation for the Stockholm European Council, EU budget issues, implementation of the stability and growth pact, a draft directive on the winding up of credit institutions and issues related to cross border reimbursement and right to deduct in respect of VAT. As has always been the case, my position in relation to these matters will be based on an assessment of the merits of issues which arise in relation to them and their implications for Ireland.
