Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

243 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of operations which had to be cancelled in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, in the past year due to a shortage of blood; and the measures he is taking to address the situation. [4735/01]

As the provision of medical services for patients at Beaumont Hospital is the responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority – ERHA – in the first instance, my Department has asked the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy. I have been advised by the ERHA that Beaumont Hospital has no record of any operations being cancelled at the hospital due to blood shortage during the past year.
