Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

442 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint a teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Kildare to alleviate the overcrowding that exists at present and where the recommended Department specifications are not being met; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4912/01]

The staffing of a primary school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1999 was 205 pupils which warrants a staffing of principal plus seven mainstream class teachers in the current school year. The enrolment on 30 September 2000 decreased to 197 pupils. Discussions are currently taking place on the staffing schedule for the 2001– 2002 school year.

The board of management of the school will be notified of the staffing position for the 2001-02 school year when the staffing arrangements are finalised.
