Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - State Agencies.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

102 Mr. Haughey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the authorities, agencies, organisations and institutions established by legislation which are ultimately accountable to her Department and which deal with issues which were once the responsibility of her Department; the year of their establishment; the most recent annual budget of each body; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4561/01]

The authorities, agencies, organisations and institutions established by legislation which are ultimately accountable to my Department and which deal with issues which were once the responsibility of my Department, or one of its historical equivalents are set out as follows with the year of their establishment and budget outturn for 2000. The Deputy should be aware that certain functions of the listed bodies have evolved over time and may not be directly comparable with responsibilities once held by my Department or its historical equivalents.

During my period as Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the administration of the local employment service has been transferred to FÁS. Preparations are at an advanced stage in establishing the Office of Director of Corporate Enforcement with a view to transferring responsibility for the enforcement of company law and the investigation of offences under the Companies Acts to that office. In addition, the Company Law Enforcement Bill, 2000, provides for the establishment of the company law review group on a statutory basis.
