Vol. 530 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Licences.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

111 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to a sea fishing boat licence for a person (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4427/01]

The individual's existing licence permits fishing for aquaculture species and bi-valve molluscs only. Fishing vessels targeting crabs and whelks must be registered in the polyvalent segment of the sea fishing boat register.

To be considered for registration in the polyvalent segment of the sea fishing boat register, the applicant must remove from the polyvalent segment of the register capacity equivalent to the capacity of the vessel being introduced into the segment. On receipt of an application, including proposals for the removal of equivalent capacity, the issuing of a licence to allow for fishing for crabs and whelks will be considered.
