Ceist:

132 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total number of non-established civil servants employed by him in his office; the number within his Department; the salary scale, conditions, terms of employment and function in each case; the names of the persons or firms so employed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are four non-established temporary civil servants in my office on contracts which are coterminous with my period as Minister and six persons in the offices of the Ministers of State on similar contracts. Each of these persons has been appointed in accordance with the guidelines for the staffing of ministerial offices to assist in the discharge of ministerial duties.

The following are the salary details of the staff in my office and in the offices of the Ministers of State at my Department:

In addition, there are 83 non-established civil servants in my Department at the grades of administrative officer (7), executive officer (23), driver tester (33) and services officer-attendant-cleaner (20). Each of these has been recruited to assist in the implementation of departmental policy. In accordance with normal recruitment procedures the administrative and executive officers are on one year contracts. The driver testers are on either initial one year contracts or extensions of those contracts and the service officer/attendants/cleaner have the option of remaining unestablished.
