Vol. 531 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

153 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the total number of non-established civil servants employed by her in her office; the number within her Department; the salary scale, conditions, terms of employment and function in each case; the names of the persons or firms so employed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5331/01]

My Department currently employs 170 non-established civil servants together with approximately 800 non-established industrial civil servants. The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be possible, within the confines of a parliamentary question, to provide details of the nature requested by him in respect of such a large number.

As regards the persons employed in my own office, there are currently two non-established civil servants employed in my constituency office, Ms Mary McNamara, serving as my personal assistant, and Ms Mairéad Collins, my personal secretary. Ms McNamara is on the higher execu tive officer scale and Ms Collins is on the secretarial assistant scale plus 10%. Both appointments will terminate not later than the date on which I cease to hold office as Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. There is also one person holding a non-established position in my private office, that is, my press advisor, Mr. Michael Ronayne. The salary for this position is currently £49,958 per annum and that appointment will also terminate not later than the date on which I cease to hold office as Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands.
