Vol. 531 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

209 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if, due to the significant increase in the numbers in September 2001 of pupils who will be seeking speech therapy assessment and assistance at a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath, he will consider granting another class at this school to accommodate these new applicants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5384/01]

I am aware that a number of children have been assessed as suitable for admission to a second speech and language class in the area referred to by the Deputy.

My Department's inspectorate is currently investigating the availability of suitable accommodation to facilitate the establishment of a second special class in the area.
