Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Capital Acquisitions Tax.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

197 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance if the position outlined in his letter in relation to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath concerning capital acquisitions tax payable on a family home, has been changed by changes effected in the recent budget; if a sympathetic view can be taken by the Revenue Commissioners in view of the circumstances which have been outlined therein; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5854/01]

The Revenue Commissioners state that the Budget 2001 proposal in relation to foster children does not apply to this case as the inheritance was taken before 6 December 2000. Also the Revenue Commissioners state that they have allowed the tax in this case to be postponed until the financial circumstances of the beneficiary improves or until the house inherited by the beneficiary is sold.
