Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

417 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that his Department maintains close contact with South Dublin County Council which has just initiated a consultation process prior to its preparation of a local area plan for the Adamstown area of Lucan where the Department intends to locate a primary school and post primary school to meet the growing needs of the school-going population. [5452/01]

While my Department has reserved sites in the Adamstown area for a primary and a post primary school, no decision has been taken as yet that such schools are definitely required. However, this matter is under active consideration at present and the development by South Dublin County Council of an area action plan for Adamstown will assist my Department considerably in that regard.

Officials of my Department's planning section meet on a regular basis with the planning department of South Dublin County Council with a view to identifying the need for additional educational provision and reserving sites for schools as necessary.
