Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tribunals of Inquiry.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

89 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Taoiseach the files from Government Departments which have been sought by the Moriarty tribunal. [5826/01]

The Tribunal of Inquiry – Payments to Messrs. Charles Haughey and Michael Lowry – has made requests for records and files from some Departments. In response to these requests, Departments have co-operated and continue to co-operate with the tribunal in making available the materials sought in a manner acceptable to the tribunal.

In order to ensure the utmost confidentiality in all dealings with the tribunal and to ensure that it is enabled to perform the tasks assigned to it by the Oireachtas, it would not be appropriate for Departments to go into any further detail in relation to any dealings with the Moriarty tribunal.
