Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

271 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the expected completion date for works at Carlow Castle, Carlow town; the total cost of the work involved; and the plans to market the site as a tourist destination. [6396/01]

Building and landscaping works at Carlow Castle costing £330,000 are scheduled for completion by the end of April this year. The project includes for the provision of interpretative panels which will facilitate self-guiding of the site. There are no plans for additional visitor facilities but I am confident that the presentation of this site resulting from the current works will attract many new visitors to the town. This site will be marketed as part of the generic promotion of the heritage sites under my care.
