283 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if the two sites identified for the new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare, are suitable; if he is in a position to purchase a site for this new Garda station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7950/01]
Both of the sites identified are suitable for a new Garda station. Discussions with the owners of both sites are ongoing. I am not in a position to give any further information on the negotiations, as they are confidential. I can say, however, that there are substantial obstacles to be overcome before either site could be purchased.
The acquisition of a site for a Garda station is being afforded top priority. My Office is doing everything possible to bring this matter to a speedy conclusion.
