Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water Flouridation.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

201 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the growing public concern about the use of chemical fluoridation in water supplies here; if he has carried out any investigations on the use of this particular chemical; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8755/01]

The chemical used to fluoridate our water supplies is fluorosilic acid. The chemical used in Ireland conforms to an EU specification for that product. The specification includes maximum permissible levels of impurities.

The most recent report by the EPA on water quality confirms that there is no cause for concern about levels of heavy metals in our drinking water.
