Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Security of the Elderly.

Ceist:

247 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10 will get a pendant alarm. [8874/01]

Under the scheme of community support for older people operated by the Department any voluntary or community based organisation working with or providing support for vulnerable older people can apply for funding. Individuals wishing to get assistance under this scheme contact a voluntary organis ation working with older people in their area in the first instance.

The Dublin West regional office of my Department has confirmed that the individual detailed in the Deputy's question sought assistance under the 2000 scheme of community support for older people through a local voluntary organisation. I can confirm that a cheque in the amount of £18,504 issued to that organisation on 7 December 2000 on foot of this application.

My Department does not get involved directly in individual applications which are processed through the various voluntary and community organisations.

Ceist:

248 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 can avail of security measures for the elderly. [8938/01]

The Dublin south regional office of my Department has not yet received an application for assistance under the scheme of community support for older people from the individual detailed in the Deputy's question.

The 2001 scheme of community support for older people was advertised in the national and provincial press on 20 March 2001. Completed application forms should be returned to the relevant regional office by Friday, 27 April 2001.

Any voluntary or community based organisation working with or providing support for vulnerable older people can apply. Individuals wishing to get assistance under this scheme should contact a voluntary organisation working with older people in their area or their local social welfare regional office.
