Vol. 533 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mobile Phone Licences.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

33 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has recently had discussions with the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation regarding the awarding of third generation mobile phone licences; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8773/01]

It is a matter for the Minister for Finance to give consent to telecommunications licence fee proposals made by the Director of Telecommunications Regulation. I have had no discussions with the director recently regarding the awarding of third generation mobile phone licences.

The current position is that the director has outlined the framework to be used for the third generation mobile licence competition. I am informed that the competition will take place shortly, on conclusion of negotiations between the director and the Department of Finance on the matter of licence fees.
