Vol. 533 No. 4

Written Answers. - Anti-Social Behaviour.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

170 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda authorities can assist residents (details supplied) in Dublin 7 with problems regarding anti-social behaviour late at night in a rented property adjacent to Mountjoy Garda Station, Dublin 7. [9194/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that community gardaí attached to Mountjoy Garda Station visited houses in the vicinity of the one mentioned by the Deputy last weekend and spoke to the occupants. I understand these residents indicated that they have not made any complaints to the Garda regarding anti-social behaviour.

With regard to noise, I am further informed that on one occasion in mid-February, when the Garda were contacted regarding noise, they called to the house and the noise ceased. The Garda powers in this regard relate to ensuring that a breach of the peace does not occur and complainants may also be advised by the Garda of their civil entitlements under section 108 of the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992.

I am assured there is no suggestion of anti-social behaviour in this locality; neither have there been any complaints relating to lack of response from the gardaí.
