Vol. 533 No. 4

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Dukes. I call on Deputy Dukes to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the allocation by 1 April 2001 – next Sunday – of milk quota from the national reserve to members of the National Milk Quota Rights Group.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and therefore I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

Is anything more urgent than a decision that has to be made before next Sunday?

If the Deputy has any queries he should contact my office. It is not in order for the Deputy to challenge the Chair's decision.

This decision has to be made before next Sunday. This is the second last sitting day before that date.

It is disorderly for the Deputy to challenge the Chair's decision. If the Deputy has any queries he should contact my office.

Your office should consult the dictionary to find out what is meant by the word "urgency".
