Vol. 533 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Clinics.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

107 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if extra sexually transmitted infec tions clinics have been arranged to deal with the increased incidence of syphilis in the Dublin area. [9366/01]

The provision of services for sexually transmitted infections in the eastern region is the statutory responsibility of the health boards of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. However, I have been informed by the authority that extra designated sexually transmitted infection clinics have been put in place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in St. James's Hospital to deal with the syphilis outbreak. In addition, there has been an extension to the service at the clinics in the Gay Men's Health Project in Baggot Street Community Hospital in terms of clinic duration and staffing levels.
