Vol. 534 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Costs.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

213 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the estimated cost of implementing the recommendations of the Blackstock report regarding (i) secretarial and caretaker provision; (ii) school insurance and (iii) financial allocation for maintenance and minor repairs. [10125/01]

In the case of secretarial and caretaking services, the Blackstock Group estimated that the cost of implementation of its proposals, using the salary converters identified, would be in the region of £10.3 million per annum. The group pointed out that this estimate related only to the second level sector, and that its proposals could have cost implications in the primary sector. Regarding support for school insurance, maintenance and minor repairs, while the group did not provide an estimate of the costs involved, because of the traditional anomalies in the funding mechanisms, it did identify a number of policy options in this regard. The group did not provide estimates of the costs involved in these options.
