Vol. 534 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

101 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total amount of serviced land available for housing purposes in each of the local authorities in the eastern region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10329/01]

Ceist:

104 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total amount of land available for housing purposes through the possible redevelopment of existing brownfield sites in the eastern region; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10332/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 101 and 104 together.

As I indicated in reply to Questions Nos. 123 and 124 of the 22 February 2001, details of the most recent national inventory of zoned serviced land, based on returns from individual local authorities, were published in the September quarter 2000 housing statistics bulletin, copies of which are in the Oireachtas Library. The results show that the position in relation to the stock of serviced building land is encouraging and is set to improve significantly going forward. In Dublin and the mid-east regions the supply of zoned and serviced land currently exceeds 3,250 hectares providing sufficient land for over 92,000 housing units. This includes all serviced sites of more than 0.5 hectare, including any brownfield sites, in the areas of the local authorities concerned. In addition, almost 3,760 units had been granted permission at the end of June 2000 in Dublin and the mid – east regions on sites of less than 0.5 hectare.

Ceist:

107 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of shared ownership loans approved by local authorities but not drawn down in the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10336/01]

Information on the level of activity under the shared ownership scheme, including the number of loan approvals and payments, and the affordable housing scheme is published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Figures for the year 2000 are currently being compiled and will be published shortly.
