Vol. 534 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

124 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in relation to a public park (details supplied) in Dublin 12, he will ensure the Garda have the necessary resources to take appropriate action to lessen the danger to children and to prevent interference with the adjoining business; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10290/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that gardaí have visited the site referred to by the Deputy, which is not a public park but is part of an industrial estate, on several occasions and inquiries were also made there by Customs and Excise officials and officers from the Revenue Commissioners. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that foreign registered vehicles, which had been there, vacated the area shortly after and by 2 April 2001 all vehicles and families had left the area.

The removal of caravans from private or public owned lands is a civil matter and the Garda have only power to intervene if there is a breach of the criminal law or to assist in the execution of a High Court Order.
