Vol. 534 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

143 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position in relation to the purchase of a site for a new 12-teacher secondary school in Castledermot, County Kildare; if he agrees with the recommendation of his Department's planning section; and if so, if he will make the necessary funding available for the immediate purchase of a suitable site. [10306/01]

I take it that the Deputy is referring to Castledermot national school. The long-term accommodation needs of this school have now been assessed and my Department's building unit is satisfied that additional accommodation will be required to cater for a projected increase in enrolments.

However, in view of the large number of school building projects being dealt with by my Department at present, it is not possible to provide a timescale as to when permanent accommodation will be provided. The matter will be kept under review. In the meantime, my Department is prepared to consider an application for the provision of temporary accommodation to cater for increased enrolments.
