Vol. 534 No. 2

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

John Ellis

Ceist:

89 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of people who have been immunised in each category for meningitis since the recent campaign commenced; and the approximate numbers who failed to turn up for immunisation in each health board area. [10301/01]

While it is as yet too early to establish the precise level of uptake achieved in relation phase 1 of the national immunisation programme aimed at the prevention of group C meningitis, preliminary indications are that uptake is generally good.

As the Deputy is aware phase, 1 of the programme was aimed at those at greatest risk of contracting the disease; children under five years of age and young persons aged 15 to 18 years. This phase of the campaign is now almost complete. Phase 2 of the campaign commenced recently and will target primary school children as a priority.
