204 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the situation regarding the deregulation of the taxi system in view of the recent Supreme Court judgment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10445/01]
The Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations, 2000 established a revised regime for taxi licensing which does not place or authorise any restriction on the numbers of new taxi and wheelchair accessible taxi licences to be issued by local licensing authorities. The recent High Court decision on 23 March 2001 has not affected the operation of this taxi licensing regime.
