Vol. 534 No. 3

Written Answers. - Burren Consultative Committee.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

251 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when the report from the Burren Consultative Committee established in March 1989 will be available; and if she will arrange for copies to be provided to Members of the Oireachtas. [10427/01]

The Deputy will be aware that the Consultative Committee on the Heritage of the Burren which was established by me includes representatives of voluntary, community and other groups, along with relevant public officials. I consider the consultative committee an extremely useful mechanism for channelling local views on a wide range of public policies that impact on the north Clare area, both to me and to relevant official agencies.

I have received the initial report of the consultative committee, which addresses a range of issues arising in the areas of: the environment; the built heritage; farming and folklore and aural tradition. I have arranged for copies of the report to be furnished to the Library for the information of Members.

In addition, I have nominated an officer of my Department at Assistant Principal level, who will be responsible for following through on the issues raised in the report. Given the preliminary nature of the report, I do not propose to formally publish it at this time.
