231 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will seek a derogation from the 20 unit regulation for participants in the new farm investment scheme which is available from the EU up to the end of 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11956/01]

I am at present considering allowing farmers with under 20 income units from farming to participate in the farm waste management scheme. It will be necessary to get approval from the European Commission before any amendment to the existing scheme can be implemented.
