Vol. 535 No. 1

Written Answers - Sydney Olympic Games.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

70 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received from the Irish Sports Council, any report on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the council's report on Ireland's participation in the Sydney Olympics; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11980/01]

The review of Ireland's participation in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and recommendations for Athens 2004 was published on 6 February 2001 and the Irish Sports Council, which has direct responsibility for its implementation, has reported that the recommendations as outlined in the report are currently being implemented and are on schedule. As a first step the council has recently established a high performance sport committee to assist the council in the development of a high performance strategy for Irish sport.
