438 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of sites for the travelling community which have been provided in each local authority area for the past five years; the number proposed; if he has satisfied himself with the present position; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The following tabular statements show the number of halting site bays provided or pro posed by local authorities. Table 1 shows the number of permanent halting site bays provided for Travellers by local authorities for the period 1996 to 2000. Table 2 shows the number of new bays local authorities propose to develop under their five year local Traveller accommodation programmes which cover the years 2000-04. The programmes do not give a breakdown of the proposed provision in each year. Implementation of the programmes will radically alter the situation in relation to Traveller accommodation nationally.
