Written Answers - Sports Funding.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

80 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, in regard to the commitments given in the review of An Action Programme for the Millennium, he will outline the progress made in regard to the provision of an indoor athletics training facility at Morton Stadium, Santry, Dublin 9; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11979/01]

A grant of £4.8 million was allocated to Fingal County Council under the 2000 sports capital programme operated by my Department towards the provision of a new indoor athletic facility – £4.1 million – and a new headquarters for the Athletics Association of Ireland – £700,000 – both to be situated at Morton Stadium, Santry.

My Department is in contact with Fingal County Council with a view to having the necessary documentation required under the terms of the programme submitted. When the required documentation has been received the grant can be formally confirmed and the project can then proceed.
