Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - Educational Programmes.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

87 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide details of the number of schools providing the On My Own Two Feet programme; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this programme is no longer in print; and the steps he will take to rectify this matter. [12308/01]

The On My Own Two Feet programme was introduced into approximately 570 second level schools up to last year and 1,700 post-primary teachers undertook 50 hours of training in relation to that programme. An SPHE programme is being phased into all schools at junior cycle over a three year period from September 2000. On My Own Two Feet was subsumed into this social, personal and health education programme. In October 2000 a supplement to the On My Own Two Feet programme was prepared and this has been distributed to the teachers who have participated in training for SPHE.

Up to now the resource materials have only been made available to those participating in the programme. The schools which have not participated in the On My Own Two Feet programme will get the full pack in the context of the broader support programme for SPHE. The pack consists of seven books including the new supplement. It continues to be a core resource for SPHE.
