Vol. 535 No. 3

Written Answers - Departmental Properties.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

159 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans he has concerning the use of lands (details supplied) in Dublin 24 in the ownership of his Department; the year in which these lands were acquired by his Department; the purchase price; if his Department has a care and maintenance contract with South Dublin County Council; if so, the consideration for this contract; if he is prepared to dispose of the land in question to South Dublin County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12636/01]

The site referred to by the Deputy was acquired by my Department for a second-level school. No final decision in relation to the provision of such a school has been taken and, pending a decision, it would be inappropriate to make any commitment to dispose of the site.

The land in question was purchased in two lots in 1978 and 1980 at a cost of £336,000. An agreement with South Dublin County Council for the upkeep of the site is in place since 1996, at a cost of £1,500 per annum.
