Vol. 536 No. 1

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

123 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will approve funding for the sewerage scheme at Ballinlough, County Roscommon; the reason for the delay in approving this funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13363/01]

A combined brief for this and a number of other schemes was received in my Department last November but has not been approved. The scheme was included as a long-term objective – 2006-2026 – in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Roscommon County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of this. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-02, announced last July. Given the council's priority rating to the scheme, the level of competing demands and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme then.
