98 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the estimated sales of paracetamol based products here for each of the past five years; the number of such products on sale; the reason there are no restrictions on the sales of such products; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are in the region of 129 medicinal products which contain paracetemol currently on the market. The estimated number of sales of paracetamol based products here for each of the past five years is not available. The Medicinal Products (Control of Paracetamol) Regulations, 2001 – S.I. No. 150 of 2001 – were made by me on 12 April 2001. These regulations, which impose further restrictions on the sale of medicinal products containing paracetamol to give effect to the recommendations of the Irish Medicines Board, will come into force on 1 October 2001.
