Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Defence Forces Training.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

191 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Defence his training plans for Defence Forces air defence live firing practice, Air Corps air-to-ground live firing practice, and Defence Forces parachute training upon the closure of these training areas at Gormanston Camp, where they are currently conducted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13986/01]

It is accepted that the use of alternative facilities or locations for the activities referred to will have to be considered. I understand that the military authorities are aware of the issues involved and I expect that they will draw up appropriate proposals in due course, arising from the sale of the aerodrome. With the withdrawal of aircraft from Gormanston and the relocation of Air Corps headquarters to Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, the Air Corps will be centralised at one location and this will provide the basis for better management of the totality of its resources.
