Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Flood Relief.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

262 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown of payments under the flood relief scheme for Arklow town, the Slaney basin, Avoca and Aughrim, County Wicklow; if he will give a further breakdown for the Slaney basin with regard to the areas Baltinglass, Rathvilly, Tullow, Enniscorthy and other areas along the Slaney; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14092/01]

The Irish Red Cross Society is preparing a report for the Government on its administration of the humanitarian aid scheme for the victims of flooding last November, which will include, inter alia, the breakdown of payments on a county by county basis. However, as the humanitarian aid scheme was administered on a strictly confidential basis between the society and individual applicants, it is not intended to publish the breakdown of the disbursements on a smaller geographical area than county as it is considered that to do so could lead to identification of individual applicants.

In the circumstances I am unable to supply the information in the format requested. However, I will communicate details of the numbers of applications received and payments made in Counties Wicklow, Carlow and Wexford to the Deputy as soon as the report is available to me. Funding has not been provided for flood relief for the areas mentioned, but my officials are in contact with each of the local authorities concerned regarding the alleviation of flooding in their areas.
