Written Answers - Swimming Pool Projects.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

423 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received a report from the Office of Public Works in relation to the design and costing of the Loughrea swimming pool; the date such a request was sent to the Office of Public Works from his Department; when he will sanction the tendering project for this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13754/01]

Galway County Council submitted a proposal on behalf of Loughrea Swimming Pool Company Limited to my Department in relation to a proposed new pool at Loughrea. The Department has already approved the appointment of consultants for the preliminary report stage of this proposal. Further consideration will be given to the proposal when the preliminary report is submitted by the council. Grant aid is not allocated to any project until such time as tenders for the project have been received.

424 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has received or requested a report from the Office of Public Works regarding a design and costing of Ballinasloe swimming pool and leisure centre; when he will approve and sanction this facility, now that the old swimming pool has been removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13755/01]

In December last, Ballinasloe UDC submitted a preliminary report to the Department on a replacement for the Ballinasloe pool. A technical assessment in connection with this preliminary report was received from the Office of Public Works in late February 2001. Additional documentation in relation to costings and other technical elements was then requested from Ballinasloe UDC. These have since been received and examined by our technical advisors and my Department will be in contact with the council as soon as the Department has completed its considerations.
