Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

450 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a progress report on conditions at St. Andrew's Church of Ireland national school, Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13645/01]

An application for additional accommodation at St. Andrew's primary school, Lucan, County Dublin, is being processed in my Department. A technical assessment of the school will be carried out as part of this process. It is not possible at this point to indicate what the extent of the project will be or when construction will commence.

Ceist:

451 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if sites for a primary and a post-primary school are included in the proposed local area plan for Adamstown, Lucan, County Dublin: and if he will agree, as soon as the area plan is approved, to commence work on the provision of new nationals schools for the area with particular regard to the post-primary school given the pressure for places in the existing second level facilities in Lucan. [13646/01]

My Department has reserved sites in the Adamstown area for a primary and a post-primary school. The question of whether to proceed with the development of these schools is under consideration. South Dublin County Council is in the course of preparing a proposed plan for Adamstown which, when it becomes available, will assist my Department considerably in regard to school provision in that area. A further site for a primary school has been reserved in the Griffeen-Foxborough area.

My Department has already responded to the demand for primary and post-primary school places in Lucan, by approving a number of major school extensions at both levels in the area. It is expected that these measures will significantly alleviate pressure for school places in Lucan in the short-term.
