Alan Shatter

Ceist:

186 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Defence if, in the context of the deteriorating sit uation in Macedonia, he has engaged in discussions with European Defence Ministers concerning a possible European Union initiative to provide a peacekeeping force in Macedonia. [13884/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 95 and 186 together.

No such discussions have taken place to date. I am advised by my colleague, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, that there has been no substantive discussion in the European Union on the creation of a new peacekeeping mission to facilitate the resolution of the current crisis affecting the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
