Vol. 536 No. 3

Written Answers - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when school transport will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14336/01]

I am aware that difficulties have arisen in relation to special transport services for pupils, including the pupil in question, attending two recently established special classes in the area referred to by the Deputy. My officials are in contact with Bus Éireann, who operate the special school transport service, in an effort to ensure that suitable provision is put in place for all the children in question as speedily as possible.

In the meantime, grant payments towards the cost of private transport arrangements will be paid to the parents of the children in question, including the parents of the child to whom the Deputy refers. My officials will be in contact with the parents of the child in question in this regard.
