Vol. 536 No. 4

Written Answers. - Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

118 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the success of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; if he agrees and supports the view that the programme, along with other such programmes, played a major role in bringing about our current economic boom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14380/01]

Social partnership has played a significant role in Ireland's recent exceptional economic performance. It has underpinned the climate of stability and business confidence which has been of vital importance and it has provided a framework for making progress on a wide range of economic and social issues. It has facilitated record performance in employment growth which in turn has raised living standards and promoted greater social inclusion.

The Programme for Prosperity and Fairness is the most comprehensive of the national social partnership agreements to date and builds on the success of its predecessor agreements. Adherence to its terms is vital to sustaining our economic and social progress and maintaining competitiveness.
